Re: Dilwyn Payne
I'm so terribly sorry to hear of his passing. What a way to start Monday morning!
I feel the loss deeply enough, and I was only mildly acquainted with him and had only ever had the chance to chat casually with him over the phone. He was a staunch member and supporter of the LOFs, a real gentleman.
He was so obviously a great human being who had done so much and certainly would go on to do much more of the same.
To those who knew him better, what a bitter blow this must be. Warm, comforting thoughts to all of you who are grieving

Re: Dilwyn Payne
I first met Dilwyn at Carter Barracks Bulford, in 1960; he was the MT Sgt, loved by all and feared by a few. On leaving the Army, Dilwyn settled in Rhyl North Wales. At the passing of his Lady Wife, Dilwyn took comfort at The Royal Hospital Chelsea as an In Pensioner and wore his Red tunic with much pride; he was a splendid Ambassador to his Regiment and The Royal Hospital.
I and Roy Blewitt will be attend the Funeral at St Mary’s Church on Wed 19th March 08.
Regards Glyn.

Re: Dilwyn Payne
Under a sunny sky, Dillwyn’s family and friends gathered at St Mary’s Church Rhyl, accompany Dillwyn on his final journey. Order of Service was Conducted by Rev’d Father Charles Ramsey, with Poem and Readings by his family and friends. His Regimental Family was very much in evidence from the Denbigh & Rhyl RWF Comrades. I’m instructed by Dillwyn’s family to express their sincere thanks to everyone for all the kindness and sympathy extended to them in their bereavement.
Regards Glyn.
