The RWF In Sierra Leone & Gulf 1990-91
As most of you probably know I have a keen interest medals awarded to members of the RWF. They are a tangible reminder of the regiments outstanding service around the globe, the trials, the tribulations and suffering.
They also help ancestors, and the curious, to link with and understand past events.
I have for many years compiled a database of information which I readily share with anyone seeking assistance. I pick up any scrap of information, no matter how small as they can often be a missing piece of the jigsaw to progress research.
With the help of members here I managed to unravel the enigma of Korea, and whilst many men of the Royal Welch served in Korea - relatively few medals were named up to the RWF, as most men were attached to other units.
My attentions have now turned to the award of the Operational Service Medal for Sierra Leone to the RWF and also the Gulf War Medal 1990-91.
If anyone could enlighten me to the following men's deployment details, and naming on said medals etc, I would be most grateful.
OSM - Sierra Leone
Sgt Evans 54
Cpl Garrathy
Sgt Hewitt
Cpl Tredrea
Maj Finn
Capt Westley
Gulf Medal 1990-91
L/Cpl Davies 39
Sgt Hughes 50
L/Cpl Jones 91
C/Sgt Jones 27
L/Cpl Parry 27
Cpl Sharp
Cpl Vaastra
L/Cpl Williams
Cpl Williams 59
Capt Jones
Capt Porter
Maj Wiseman
Maj Wynne
If any of the above chaps happen to be a member of the forum and are reading this I would be very grateful for pictures of your medal(s) and service numbers for my archives. Whilst this might seem a very odd request - it might not be to someone in 50 years time.
Many Thanks
Richard

Re: The RWF In Sierra Leone & Gulf 1990-91
Can I offer my full support to the archive database that Richard is creating. He has been working on this for a number of years. The regiment has nothing as detailed in relation to medal information, which spans such a long period.
Hopefully in years to come this sort of RWF information will be available on-line, but only because Richard has put it together, and we've contributed. At least 3 of the named are members of the forum....Step forward please Boys
Our researchers provide their time and considerable expertise for free. However if you want to say thank-you, a donation to the up-keep of the forum would be greatly appreciated. Click here to make a donation

Re: The RWF In Sierra Leone & Gulf 1990-91
I would like to thank the forum member who emailed me with details of his service who was not on my list, and also led me to dig deeper in the information I already had which resulted in me being able to identify a further five Royal Welchmen who were also entitled.
I have updated the list above.
Please keep the information coming, it is very much appreciated.
Richard
