Re: Col W J Simmons MC TD, Scrap Book

    Hi ap1

I have uploaded to the Galleries; I reduced the sizes of the Jpegs so I hope they can be seen!!!

Here is the bit that’s missing from one of the Poems.

The Invasion of Madagascar 1942 (b)
The bit that is missing goes something like this:

With the night came the bully and biscuit
And the (something) tin full of hot char
Most of the men are more tired
For the journey had been so far

    Kind regards
    Vicky

    Many thanks Vicky, interesting stuff.

I've put 3 of the images up, but they are difficult to read, which is a shame. If you wish, you can send the images to me in their original file size, and I will try and upload them. Send me 2 or 3, and I will have ago tomorrow(Sat), if that works ok, you can send the rest in small groups as and when you are able. I will PM you my email address.

Incidentally, does the Railway Corridor map show the town of Pinbaw?

I have now started to place articles relating to Col Simmons and his wartime service in the Research Archive. Many thanks to Vicky for providing them. To view them follow the link below:

Another book of interest is Regimental Records of The Royal Welch Fusiliers Volume VI. This covers the period 1945-1969 and tracks your father's career from 47-66. He is mentioned on quite a few nominal roll's, and it show's who his colleagues were during specific times of his service. Well worth it.

I now have my copy of 'The Red Dragon'!!!

I have searched for the 'Regimental Records of The Royal Welch Fusiliers Volume VI' but can only find one that covers 1914-1918. Perhaps I am looking in the wrong places, could someone confirm the title of the Book.

    Kind regards
    Vicky

    Hi Vicky,

Just to let you know, I popped into St Giles Church in Wrexham over the weekend(Aug 11). I could not find the plaque memorial to your father? Do you have any more detail.

Thank you for finding the time to check that out. My Mother had told me there was some sort of plaque memorial to my Father.
Could the memorial be his name on a list or a chair?

    Hi Vicky,

Hope all is well. Have you managed to find out anymore about your fathers service. Also did you make contact with Col Sinnett, who would have served with your father after the war ?

You will find the book at the RWF Museum Site. The author is listed as Brigadier JP Riley, about a quarter way down the page, they are offering two volumes, although you only require Vol 6.

I would suggest you place a telephone order.

    Best wishes
