1st Bn - Please Pull This Recruit
Hi,
My son 30011905 Pte Griffiths, Dean is coming up to completing Phase 1 training at ATR Bassingbourn and is badged Royal Welsh. However he suspects that he is being sent to 2nd Bn when he wants to go to the 1st Bn.
My Grandfather, my father and myself have all served in the 1st Bn Royal Welch and each of us has served 15 years each. It would be appreciated if the 1st Bn would "pull" him whilst at the same time he is asking from his side to join the 1st Bn.
In addition if there is anything I can do further or speak to etc, please get in touch
All his family are North Wales based and I feel he would be better suited serving with the 1st Bn
Hope all are well
Yours
Thankfully
Griff

Re: 1st Bn Please pull this recruit
Hi Griff
I've no idea how recruiting works these days. But hopefully "somebody up the chain" from the 1st will assist, or within the recruiting chain will advise.
Keep the Forum informed please Griff.

Re: 1st Bn Please pull this recruit
HI griff
i take it he will be off to itc cattrick now to complete phase 2,i know for a fact that there a few training instructors from the 1st battalion up there now, also there is a regimental sheppard up there to,his job is to keep an eye on the lads up there, and make sure there all happy,i don't have a number for any personal up there, however my boss is WO2 john warlow in charge of the regimental recruiting teams north and south,he will be able to assist you in regards to who you might need to speak to,in regards to your son's choice. This is the contact no for W02 john warlow 02920781229, good luck, and let us all no how you get on,all the best lloydy24

Re: 1st Bn - Please Pull This Recruit
Paul Campbell is a CQMS up in Catterick at the moment, I do have his mobile No, If you would like me to contact him give me the nod. I'm sure other lads will have contacts there as well.

Griff & Al
the lad should have no problem claiming what is known as Grandfather rights to ensure he ends up with the 1st Bn if that is what he wants.

Gents he has to complete Phase 2 CIC first before he gets told what Bn he is going to. So where he got the "However he suspects that he is being sent to 2nd Bn" from is pure guesswork. They get told towards the end of the CIC course. They do not have a choice 'unless they have family ties' to a specific Bn and in this case he probably does.
It is far to early to be ringing people. Wait until he is in Catterick and then speak to the Regimental Shepherd 'Cpl Ashton' and let him know of the soldiers wishes and he will sort it out. (Your son will meet Cpl Ashton as soon as he arrives at Catterick and will be mentored by him throughout his training).

Re: 1st Bn - Please Pull This Recruit
Looks like a done deal; Grandfathers Rights etc, thanks to the respondents, Think we can close this thread for now. Griff can always reopen in the unlikely event of a problem. Look forward to young Dean Griffiths coming onto this site in a few months telling us he is enjoying Cyprus.
