Re: 1 R Welsh Recruits in Catterick
Hello All,
Let us hope some one can correct this additional error re the 1st batt RWF asap. I have been working on getting our V.C.'s in chronological order in both the diary and the new journal. Our Crimea V/C.'s (Capt Bell & Sjt Luke O'Connor) were relegated to the third and fourth position at the drop of a hat. I have failed to find out why. But they should be in joint first place in both these so called new publications.Based on the date of award and the London Gazette I hope the Italian printers of the new diary do not carry the can for this glaring mistake. I can give an educated guess as to where the blame lies????

Tatally understand not only the VCs Decerations etc etc But the young lads dont even konw the the COs Name or the RSM name, which is DISCUSTING.im not pulling up a sand bag in my time all battle honours and regimental history was compulsary and the names of the battalion head shed. The NCOs in depot want to get a GRIP any of them got a problem with my comment i am sure i will emmbrace their visit with both arms. THE NCOs IN DEPOT NEED TO GET A GRIP(on this subject)

Please don't think that I'm throwing the "Cat amongs the Pigeons, again" But are now to believe that the new "Regime" as I call it now have a standard dress code throughout all 3 Bn's Royal Welsh, same cap badge, Hackle, Collar badges and even to come the same colour of their respective Regimental Colours. ( Or have I missed the boat somewhere). So the dress code can't distiquish which Bn a soldier/Recruit is a member of?
I read into this with a very wide interest in the coming future.
Best Regards

i am not 100%, i will ask my Regimental Sergeant Major when im back in work on the dress code..........i am just pixxxx off that my son and other fusiliers , not privates are not wearing the correct uniform that there Bn wears, its not hard to get right. I think its because his instructors are RRW, 2 R Welsh... as for the new kind of colar dog, not known....My Fusiliers are still wearing the bombs, so he should wear them in my opinion however my son is wearing the old RRW colar dogs. the ones that they use to wear i.e silver circle with dragon inside.......... i will confirm with the RSM, the dress code, but i am 99.9% sure im right......Some people might think im making a drama out of nothing but i disagree i am very proud of my Regiment as my son is.

Dave.
your 100% right he should be wearing the bombs until the new collar tags come out. And yes the reason he had the others on, was probably peer preasure from his section commd in depot. This should stop

Re: 1 R Welsh Recruits in Catterick
Benny, Regarding your comments on the new dress regs, the Collar Dogs and new cap badge are not out yet, they are due in the next few weeks and yes all 3 Bn's will wear the same. But as for now they wera their respective ones. I know that all the 1st Bn guys posted to the 2nd Bn wear the bombs and there has been no mention of us wearing the old RRW ones.
Dave, has your son asked the clothing stores in Catterick for the RWF bombs, i've already spoken to the civi storeman up there and he assures me he has them on his shelf!!!!

cheers Josk, i thought i was right..., you are right about peer pressure......i dont suppose you know who is suppose to be doing the Regimental shepard in catterick do you...because come april, 12 recruits are going to 2nd BN and only four are coming to us, it doesnt help when all the instructors in his Pl are 2nd bn.....they tried to poach him, but he knows better lol..

I "stand corrected", many thanks to you and the rest of the forum members' for bringing me up tp date on the dress issue, (looks like a bit of NCO do as I say, not as I do syndrome there, needs "nipping at the bud")
All the best to your son and his future career.

Hello All,
Keep up the good work. Or we will fall further back than a 5000/1 shot in the Derby. It will be hard work but do not let up and fight for your rights please.

i dont know?? i know it was Trigger but im sure he is either getting out or out. Capt Kent will know. Sure Nige Garce can nip this in the bud. At the end of the day the sect commds should sort it out and should be briefed by their chain of command accordingly. At the end of the day the recruit should be wearing his CHOICE of regimental identity NOT the identity the pieers wish them to wear. And in my experience as an ex recruiter if the recruit was allocated his preference job/ Regiment and that job was changed due to be rebadged or any other reason, well that recruit can wish to resing untill his choice of HIS capbadge comes vacant.

Re: 1 R Welsh Recruits in Catterick
The shepard is an underestimated tool in the box. If the Bn uses him correctly, the individual can save a lot of hassle and grief. But he has to have a regular point of contact in the Bn ie the RSM. The RSM can control the Shepard and find out exactly whats going on with all issues, down to getting up dates on numbers and drop outs. If im correct the RCMO does this any way. I also understand its hard to place some one there to do the job as shepard, i know Trigger was there but not sure whos there now.

Re: 1 R Welsh Recruits in Catterick
Fellas, all good points and rest assured we are all over this at Regtl level. The Shepherd is Cpl Ashton from the 2nd Bn; he does an excellent job and he works for me as CO recruiting for R WELSH. After Xmas leave (always a point at which Catterick suffers high DAOR rates) we had zero DAORs on our books. This was because we laid on tpt to bring them home and take them back - only Regt to do it. The last platoon passed out 3 weeks ago and had an 82% pass rate - way above the PoW Div avg of about 65%; but they aren't all this good. The RST (used to be RRT) are used to visit and brief up the recruits and the battalions do it as well and I have nurturing money to fund regtl gatherings (Dai's Day, 10 pin bowling etc). We also get the recruits out of Catterick for a weekend to visit the 2nd Bn and will do the same with the Dale when the 1st Bn is back in the Summer - just to show them what they can expect and give them an incentive to hang on in trg. Things have come along a lot in the last 2 yrs but there's still a lot of work to do and the responsibility to get the recruits through trg is everyone's not just the Shepherd and the NCOs in Catterick.
It's reassuring to see the concern raised by you for these sorts of issues. If anyone needs more details, especially on how recruits are allocated to Bns - feel free to PM me.

Re: 1 R Welsh Recruits in Catterick
Sorry - I've just checked further back and seen the messages on collar badges. We will shortly move to a new collar badge probably at the same time as we get the new cap badge. I'll get a copy and post it in this thread in the next couple of days.
Mean time the offrs badge is attached for info. Soldiers badge will be the same except it will be slightly smaller, smoother design and gold/silver in colour.

Re: 1 R Welsh Recruits in Catterick
The Collar Dogs for Officers service dress is now issued and its expected that the OR's will be issued within the next couple of weeks.

Update,
The reason the Royal Welch Fusilier " 1 R Welsh " recruits are wearing the old RRW colar dogs is two fold firstly because apparently in the whole of Catterick there is no RWF Bombs, even though there is only 5 RWF recruits passing off the square and secondly because every Royal Welsh soldier has to be the same on parade.
What an excuse NOT...
Can all Royal Welch Fusilier instructors get a grip of these people please, we are the senior regiment......
Its lucky im off to Afghanistan and unable to attend my sons passing out parade or heads will role....
