Chris and I are very stunned to hear the sad loss of Andy. The news was given to us last night by our son, who was in tears as he told us. Andy and Sandy were good friend to us as well as were our families. Andy will be sadly missed by all who knew him, whether it be in the RWF or as a civilian friend. Our condolances to Sandy and the boys, his sister Julie and her family and of course his brother Mick and his family, and the remainder of the Carnell family as well.

Sere you on the Bn Square in the sky.

Chris and Roger

Andy and I were in the Depot together in 72. Too young to join the Battalion in Londonderry we were promoted to Local Lcpl and posted to Junior soldiers company. It was job that I was not comfortable with so soon out of training myself but Andy took to it like a duck to water and helped me settle in and accept the responsibility. He was not much older than me but far more mature in his ways and remained a guiding influence to me and many others throughout his career, always there to lend an ear or advice. An honour and a privilege Andy, thankyou and Godbless.

We would like to take the opportunity to thank everybody who attended Andy's funeral service held at St Georges Church, Whittington Barracks, yesterday 12thOctober. It was a great turnout, with his family and many friends and comrades in attendance. We would also like to thank the Padre, Stewart Young for conducting such a memorable and moving ceremony, he managed to catch the spirit of Andy perfectly. Our thanks also to Benny and 25 who carried the standards with pride both at the Church and the Crematorium afterwards, Glyn Hughes and Des Williams who helped Sandra through this sad time. The whole service was a fitting tribute to Andy who will always be in our hearts and thoughts, and to Sandra, Darren and Daniel, all of whom were strong at this very hard time for them, but I am sure being surrounded by family and friends made it so much easier to bear

Once again many thanks to all

Mick and all the family
