My uncle, John Edward Blundell, 890652 was killed on or after 28 May 1940. I have seen a record of him being missing with a code written alongside that says PPD Cat C. Anyone know what this stands for please. I found the record on Find My Past. Thanks

Jaqcob, your uncle was with the 69th ( Denbighshire Yeomanry ) Medium Regiment , Royal Artiliary. I would suggest that your question would be answered by one of their web sites. Unfortunately their museum archives have been relocated and will not be up and running until early 2020. According to their web site )

Hi I know I have just appeared back . but I used to do research before. from what you have given the only thing I can get is CAT C which is a Medical Category meaning Fit for Home Service Only. Now a bit of Guesswork based on Cat C I am wondering if it could mean Posted Prior to Discharge. now I am hoping some of the Old Hands can help out here. But as 28 th May 1940 was the retreat to Dunkirk. he may have been very unlucky.

61st (Caernarvon & Denbigh Yeomanry) Medium Regiment, RA[edit]
61st Medium Regiment saw service in France during the phoney war (1939–1940); after the Dunkirk evacuation, it would remain in the United Kingdom until returning to Europe in June 1944 with 21st Army Group.[60]
69th (Caernarvon & Denbigh Yeomanry) Medium Regiment, RA[edit]
In 1939, 61st Medium Regiment formed a duplicate unit, 69th Medium Regiment, RA which in February 1942 was designated as 69th (Caernarvon & Denbigh Yeomanry) Medium Regiment, RA.[61] It also saw service with the BEF in 1940, before being sent to North Africa in 1942, where it took part in the Battle of El Alamein. It joined the 2nd AGRA (Army Group Royal Artillery) and took part in the Italian Campaign from 1943 to 1945. It ended the war in North-West Europe with the 2nd Army.[6
