Visit - War Memorial Denbigh - Wreath Laying - Sunday 9th August 2015

On Sunday August 9th 2015 members of a family, from Rotherham, will be gathering at the War Memorial, Crown Square, Denbigh to lay a wreath in memory of their late Taid's brother, Edward Lloyd RWF, who died 100 years ago on this date. KIA in Flanders, he has no grave, but along with thousands of others is named on the Le Touret Memorial, as well as the Denbigh War Memorial. This information was passed to the Denbigh and District Branch through the RBL who will be taking the lead on this visit, however it is intended for the Denbigh and District Branch The Royal Welch Fusiliers Comrades Association to have a strong presence, parading standards for this unusual parade.

I am happy to report that there was a good turnout for this event, albeit over an hour early, but everyone waited to greet the family of Edward Lloyd RWF KIA 100 years ago. The unusual service went ahead with a speech from the family organiser followed by a speech of thanks from Col Eyton-Jones. Three wreaths of poppies were also placed at the war memorial and there were 6 standards on parade. The family went on to the cemetery at Whitchurch, Denbigh and the standards paraded there for a family remembrance to their father and taid, who served and survived the war, serving in the RWF, and died some years later in Denbigh. Thank you for all who attended.
