RWF battalions abroad in WWII?
My query is which RWF battalions or affiliated batallions served abroad during WWII. 1st and 2nd, 4th, 6th and 7th. 6 para (RWF). Which Antitank (RWF) battalions did? Any other?
I hope to complete the WWII medsl collection, and just now. 1st, 4th and any RA are not in.
ATB,
Lars

Re: RWF battalions abroad in WWII?
Thanks for your help! I also found that two batteries of the 60th (RWF) Antitank Regiment RA served in France in 1940.
Was 76th AT also RWF?

From my notes:
16/11/1938 60 ATR formed from 5 (Flintshire) RWF
15/02/1940 Redesignated 101 LAA/ATR
01/11/1940 Reformed as 76th ATR
01/04/1944 Redesignated 60 ATR
01/04/1945 Disbanded
In between there was the usual moving about or renumbering of batteries, but these are the main points.
Hope this helps.

Re: RWF battalions abroad in WWII?
More old notes, Lars:
07/1940 12 RWF formed as infantry bn
01/01/1945 Converted to 116 LAAR
31/01/1945 Disbanded
1939 70 ATR formed as duplicate of 60 ATR
01/01/1947 Disbanded
15/09/1949 Two btys of 70 ATR to 71 ATR
(thus making 71 ATR half RWF; but 'RWF' not in title)

Re: RWF battalions abroad in WWII?
Thanks again!
Now I know what I am looking for, even if the RA reorganisations are a bit confusing.
The 1st and 4th btns should be a bit more straightforward to look for.

Re: RWF battalions abroad in WWII?
If you want lists of units and the periods (to the year) they served abroad I list the war diaries held at Kew. I can tell what campaign a unit served in by the ref's given to each file.

Re: RWF battalions abroad in WWII?
60 ATR's Batteries were then part of 101 Light Anti-Aircraft & Anti-Tank Regiment, just finished writing their 'new' history incidentally.
For NWE you have 4, 6, 7, 116 LAA, 71 ATR all standing out.
No 2 Independent Company had a large cadre from 158 Brigade, as did 11 Independent Company from their duplicate Brigade in 38th Division.
