I am wondering does anyone know any information of regarding abt this person called Major Bernard Head he was born in 1876 in London, involved with the South Africa wars from 1900-02. Later in 1908 went to NZ but before that or sometime from 1912 to 1913 he came back to uk and enlisted with the 1/5 rwf t.f. This is what information I would like more research on as I am researching him as a private and independent researcher. And trying to find any information on his involvement with his battlion as when and what dates he enlisted etc. Then late 1913 returned to nz again and rejoined again with the 1/5 rwf.tf in 1915 in before going to Gallipoli. Later he was promoted to a captain before leaving uk and he was killed in the Gallipoli campaign in august 12 1915 by a sniper.Thank you.
It seems he was also a keen mountaineer, and Mt Head is actually named after him. He appears a number of times in being in the first parties to reach summits.
However, he was up Mount Edward in 1914 - I believe he then served with the New Zealand forces as part of the "Samoa Expeditionary Force" before returning to the RWF.
