Malaya - Jack Stanwell Fletcher, No 22787165
Hi there everybody, and thanks for the welcome. I was very excited to discover the forum, and to perhaps find out more about my Dad's time in Malaya. He was an amazing man, and spoke fondly, and often, of his time out there. He was Jack Stanwell Fletcher, No 22787165, and I am lucky that he left a lot of photos of that time, (I have added them to an album on here), together with his certificate of service book. From what I have worked out he left Malaya a bit early, I know he was injured in the leg... I found a photo of him on Brian Collins site at http://www.rwfphotos.co.uk/page12.html . I would love to have any info if any of you remember him, sadly he passed away far too early in 1989 aged 57 so I can't ask him... Looking forward to hearing from you all. Melanie

A warm welcome Melanie,
Hopefully Jungle1810 will pick up on this thread. Are you aware that the story of the 2nd Bn in Malaya is covered in a chapter of Vol 6 of Regimental Records RWF. That book can be purchased online via the RWF Museum Website bookstore.

Thanks ap1, I'll have a look into getting the book. I can't work out if everone can access the photos I put up, I hope so! I just noticed on one photo, my Dad and another chap are sitting on the steps of a building and there's a sign behind them that says "A company", so maybe that's a bit more info... Thanks for your welcome, Melanie

I did find reference to a LCpl Fletcher(from Bridgend) playing rugby for the 2nd Bn in Malaya in about 1955. He was serving with A Coy. He also helped train the Bn X-Crountry Team.

Lance Cpl Fletcher from Bridgend his first name is Arthur Fletcher, he did play rugby for the Batt. Myself and Arthur are still in contact and when we are able ther are about six ex Malaya vets that meet at the Hawthorne pub in Treforest. The vet. that organises the meetings is Bill Carr who has a website with a lot of photos of Malaya 53-55.
This site was at one time posted on the Forum but for some reason it has dropped out. it has got the photo of the rugby team and the graves at KL.
IF anyone wants to look at the site go to :- www.royalwelchfusiliers1953to55.co.uk and click on photos.
