My father was with the Royal Welch Fusiliers in Selkirk in 1941/1942 and I wondered if the gentleman that you mentioned recognized my father in the attached photograph. My father Frank (Dapper) Dadge is kneeling with the rugby ball in front of him. Two other members of the battalion in the photograph are T.E. Bridges and Luscombe who I believe were both members of "Tiger" platoon. I would also be interested to learn of any information with regard to Tiger Platoon. My mother also mentioned two young ladies Thora and Voy who may have inspired some of the lines in the poem.

Excellent picture Roy, I will ask him. The 1st Bn had a "GR" Platoon whilst at Kohima in 1944, each company supplied a number of men, in the war diary's they are in the thick of it. A bit like a CO's Reserve I suspect…a small group, under his direct command, not part of the rifle companies, so he could utilise them without taking assets away from the fighting companies. The CO of 1RWF at the time of Kohima was Lt Col Braithwaite he was previously 2 i/c of the 2nd Bn at Madagascar in 1942……perhaps he got the idea of that GR Platoon from his time with 2RWF.
