Seventy years ago this month. Fusilier Harold Jones of Welshpool was fighting at Kohima with the 1st Battalion. Meanwhile his friend, a farmer from Welshpool Cpl Ted Jones MM, was leading a section in Burma, as part of the 2nd Battalion and engaged in the Second Arakan Offensive. Ted was deployed in the Mayu Hills, living in company patrol bases, searching out and destroying the enemy.

On Wed 21 May 2014. A small group of members of the Welshpool RWF Comrades Branch will be escorting two of our surviving WW2 branch members to The Burma Star AGM to be held at The National Memorial Aboretum at Stafford.

The AGM will commence at 1100hrs and both Cpl Ted Jones MM RWF and Fusilier Harold Jones RWF will attend the meeting as holders of the Burma Star. At 1400hrs there will be a service of remembrance within the Burma Memorial Grove. Wreaths will be laid on behalf of the RWF.

If anyone would like to attend with us, and spend some time in the company of these two outstanding gentleman, you'll be made very welcome.
