Re: Researching Hargreaves and Maylott
I just recieved a copy of the Marriage Certificate for Samuel and Adelaide. There isnt a huge amount of further information but the marriage is 14 January 1889, and they are both listed as living at the barracks in Wrexham. Samuel is listed as Private, Royal Welsh Fusiliers and his father as Henry Hargreaves, Watch Case and Spring Maker. Adelaide's father, Charles Maylott, is listed as Private, royal Welsh Fusiliers and he is one of the witnesses. The other is E Murray.
The profession of Henry made me think about the earlier comment that Samuel might have a trade.
All the best,
Andrew

Re: Researching Hargreaves and Maylott
Thanks Andrew,
The marriage certificate at least allows you to extend Samuels service with the regiment back to 1888. Which potentially means he may have served for a minimum of 24 yrs. Was he still serving when he died? If not another avenue of research is the army pension records, he may have been in receipt of one. Perhaps someone can tell us what the criteria was in those days?
