    4187970 Jones C or G

I am trying to find if possible any information on 4187970 Jones, not sure of the initial, either a C or a G. It is on an early war (1940 dated) MKII helmet and I know the number falls in the block of numbers issued to the RWF.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Ivor, that is my thoughts as well, and why I added the picture as it makes it easier to comment.

    Hi.
Yes that was very helpful as i was able to enlarge it X13 and there is no indication of a bar on the upstroke as you would have expected on a G.

From Richard Ward. One of our researchers:

    "4187970 – Glynne Parry Jones. He was a 6th Bn boy. Enlisted 10th November 1927 and left 26thSeptember 1945."
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

From my own searches, he is not listed amongst the 6th Bn NCO's who landed at Normandy on the 23 June 1944. However, by then its highly likely he would have achieved a rank range of Sgt-WO2. So its very possible he was posted to another unit. At least you now have a trail to follow.

Brilliant, thanks very much to both of you. Interesting that it was a G.
