    David William Ainslie

It is wth sadness that i inform the Forum of the passing of David William Ainslie

I have received an e-mail from his son Damien, with he following details:

Hello there. I am writing you this message to inform you of the passing of my father, David William Ainslie who passed away after a battle against cancer on 15th January 2013.

His service number was 24252998. He was tremendously proud of the Royal Welch Fusiliers and spoke highly of his time serving for the regiment.

We are devastated by his death and would very much like others in the regiment to know.

There will be a service of committal at 12:40 at Gorleston crematorium in Norfolk and then a service at St Mark's church in Oulton Broad at 2 pm on the 1st of February 2013.

I would like to pass on my sincere condolences to David's family at this very sad time

    Rest in Peace David

    Re: David William Ainslie

I remember David from Tidworth days (70's). He was quite a character and very well spoken, so much so, (the story goes) when he arrived at the Battalion and reported to the CSM Bravo Company, Brian (Cooper) shot to attention and addressed him as Sir! After some time Dave announced that he was actually a Fusilier. Those of us who remember Brian (with affection) need only to imagine what his reaction was...and I am still laughing typing this post.

On another occasion that quite a few may remember, we as a Battalion paraded for Spearhead duty (I think for NI). We were all on parade with Webbing, Large Pack and Kit Bag (sausage bag) ....not Dave. Webbing, Large pack and SUITCASE another blood vessel in the afore mentioned CSM's temple at bursting point.

A gentle man who will be sorely missed. Godbless David.

I never knew David, but I was certainly aware of that story, which was part of the RWF folklore of the 70/80's. A classic.

Deepest sympathy to all his family and friends.
