    Re: Edward David Evans (1928 - 1992)

    Hello Suzy c1978
Hello Re the search for David Evans. As I previously stated I was just turned 21 and a half when I left for Malaya. That would make Teddy a 26 and a half year old.I reckon that is a bit too old for Teddy to have served in the Second Battalion as an N S man.?? As a point of interest during the 12 years of the Malayan Emergency, up to 30 Battalions of British Infantry completed a tour of Malaya ( This was a 3 years posting at this time)as well as R A M C R A and the R A F. The ranks were mainly filled by N S men.And at this time the 2nd Battalion R W F were some 1200 strong, we were a battalion at higher establishment and had a Major Adjutant ( Major Egglington). if as stated Teddy was an
N S man I doubt very much he served in the R W F. I have looked at a random selection of Company locations and from the April to May 1955 we had 16 Company moves , and I did not find Malacca mentioned. But in saying this it may well be my fault but in no way detracts from the comprehensive work put into the Two Volumes of the R W F. records. The Volumes were what i would term as well nigh perfect, this is down to all the officers who helped finish this part of the R W F history. More to the point with out an army number and even a positive declaration That Teddy could be a confirmed soldier from the 2nd Battalion R W F, it becomes almost a mission impossible. I am sorry but I must say I and others have given the search our best shot and failed

I think we must hold on for a while longer before giving up. I would be expecting to see previous Military Service mentioned on his Aussie papers.

So once they are obtained we might be in business again.

    Hello Richard,
I did ask "Taffy" Gwilym to see if he could gain any info on his British army service such as a number and Regiment, but he said he sent me all he could find. I would have thought Evans's British Army service would be linked to his Australian papers.?? I would like to think we have not reached the end of the road on this search.

    Hello Richard,
I tried to forward "Taffy Gwilym's e mail to you but it bounced back. If you send me your correct e mail address I can then forward the e mail from "Taffy" with the OZ army info on. Then you may be able to pick the bones out of it.
