An officer serving with 2RGR has requested assistant in researching for a relation who served with the 15 Battalion RWF at YPRES, he was awarded the Military Medal during the campaign. His details; 56857 Abraham Williams. He had previously served with the Welsh Horse Battalion, Army number 1452 during WW1. Respectfully request a copy of the citation for MM award at Ypres.

Born Welshpool, 1452 L/Cpl Abram M. Williams served with the Welsh Horse Yeo, transferred to RWF joining 15th Bn, in France where in the fighting at Pilckem during Jul 1917, for bravery in the attack on the canal bank in the Steenbeek sector 01/08/1917 he was awarded the Military Medal 17/08/1917 (gazetted 28/09/1917).

There is little further information available re Pte Abram M Williams. I would suggest he enlisted in the Welsh Horse c.10/1915 and landed in France c.08/1916. These are the dates I have for 1487 Ballister, Welsh Horse, and they may well be representative. Pte Williams did not qualify for the 1915 Star but did receive the BWM and VM. I attach his Medal Index Card.

A search for his service and pension records gave no results. They were probably destroyed in the Blitz.

MM citations were not published in the London Gazette, and as far as I know were not even recorded elsewhere. Only VC and DCM citations were published.

Nothing much to add, his middle name I believe was Morris, he transferred to RWF around June 1916, and the entry from the WD.

Casualty list of 10th September 1917 has him as A M Williams (Welshpool), wounded. The list is very likely that of 3rd Ypres. The way Abram is spelt plus the Morris as a middle name gives an Abram Morris Williams at Old Public, Pont Robert, Welshpool in the 1911 census.
