District 23rd Brigade Depot 1881 Wrexham records
Hello
In 1881 I have a John / James Hallmond aged 20 born Wrexham as a militia man in Wrexham Hightown Barracks.
Are there are records from that far back that will help to decide if he is mine.
I have been searching for him as John Allmand, same age and birthplace for quite a while, and as this one has turned . I`m wondering if he is mine ?
Were there any checks made for bad behaviour, my John had a few skirmishes and was brought up in court for being drunk and disorderly.
1881 census
RG11; Piece: 5520; Folio: 141; Page: 6
Regards
Annette.

Welcome to the Forum, Annette.
Enlistment after brushes with the Civil Power was possible if there was no conviction. Once a man had been convicted of a crime or offence he could not enlist any more. Enlistment without mentioning a previous conviction would be a reason for discharge. In 1912 this was enshrined for eternity in the form of Paragraph 392, sub-paragraph 10, of the King's Regulations, also known as KR 392(x). A conviction after enlistment was another matter, and a convicted man could return to the army on his release from prison.
I have nothing on J Hallmond in my database, which is mainly concerned with the Great War and the immediately preceding years. Have you tried the Museum?
John
