Pte Arthur Lowe 8367 landed with reinforcements for 2 RWF on 1 Sep 1914. He survived the war.

Pte Ambrose Collict 6100 landed 28 Dec 1914, was later transferred to the RE as Pte 156136, and died of wounds 23 July 1917. He was a Special Reservist, i.e. belonged to 3 RWF. I just found his service record, so more about him later.

    Re: Wwi medals

About Ambrose Collict we are quite well informed.

Ambrose Collict, colliery haulier, born Maerdy, Glamorgan, c.Jan 1882, enlisted 3 RWF at Maerdy 31 Aug 1914 as 6100. Unmarried. Elder brothers William and Thomas, elder sister Bertha.
He gave his address as 79 [possibly 19] Oxford Street, Maerdy. He had previously served with the Cardigan Militia and had been discharged time expired.

He was posted to 2 RWF 27 Dec 1914. He was sentenced by FGCM on 2 July 1915 to three years penal servitude for sleeping on his post while a sentinel. The remainder of the sentence was remitted for gallant conduct in the field at Loos 25 Sep 1915.

He was transferred to 173 Tunnelling Coy RE 28 Apr 1916 as Pte 156136. He was gassed 13 May 1916 and transferred to 3 General Hospital and later 3 Convalescent Depot where he remained until 4 June 1916.

On 4 Sep 1916 he re mustered as a tunneller, becoming Spr 156136, this time signing his name "A Collett" and creating some confusion at the RE Records Office.

On 2 Feb 1917 he forfeited 7 days pay for destroying government property by using RE mine casings to build a hut fire. It was a very cold winter.

His brother William Collict, Brickyard Cottages, Abercrave, Breconshire, was informed of his death from gas at 47 Casualty Clearing Station on 23 July 1917.

Ambrose Collict is buried in Dozinghem Military Cemetery, Belgium, in grave I.I.11.

    Hope this helps.

    Re: Wwi medals

That is absolutely fantastic. My step-brothers name is Collict, his father was Hayden Collict so there is a definite family connection there. He'll be really chuffed with this information.

Not sure where A Lowe fits into his family.

Thank you so much for the information.

    Regards

    Re: Wwi medals

All I can tell you is that Thomas Thomas enlisted 27 Dec 1914 in the Royal Garrison Artillery as 48039, was then transferred to the Welsh Regt as 38262, landed in France 14 Jul 1915 and was later transferred to a Tunnelling Coy, RE, as 139019. He was discharged Medically Unfit due to sickness 26 Feb 1918.

His service and pension records have disappeared, so I have no information on his address or next of kin. Perhaps Hywyn knows more.

    Hope this helps.
