Elijah Gardiner Royal Welsh Fusilier 57672 Private
I'm trying to piece together my wife's grandfathers time in the RWF, he was recruited on September 19 1917, Private 57672. We know he served in France and he looked after a pony. Could someone tell me anything about where he went, or what he did while with the RWF?There are some service records on Ancestry if you need to have a look.
Thank you very much in advance

Re: Elijah Gardiner Royal Welsh Fusilier 57672 Private
I had a look at the service record. It's rather chaotic and at times barely legible.

Transferred to 9 RWF from Inf Base Depot 05/07/1918, new no 57672
[this is a very low number indeed for mid-1918, and I cannot explain it]

The pony must have been during his time with 862 AE Coy.
For what 9 RWF did and experienced in the almost 3 months that Elijah served with them, see vol 3 of the Regimental Records of the Royal Welch Fusiliers, available from the RWF Museum or through your local library.
