Thanks for the welcome. I have just left the RAF atfer serving 20 years, I am presently unemployed but still hopefull.

I am attempting to find out some more infomation about my GGrandad Pte Fredrick also known as "Fritz" and "Frity" Millward RWF 17159 (joined 1/12/15) who served in the first world war. I have found his medal cards and citation for his DCM and thats about it. He never spoke of the war even though my Gdad (Dennis) who also served in the second world war tried to find out. My Grandad was very interested in the family hostory and wrote of his own experiences in Burma with the 14th Army. He has left an interesting piece about the Battle of the Admin box. I would love to find out what Battalion my GGrandad was in.

I would be interested in reading your G/Fathers comments on Admin Box. If you would be interested in posting them on here, in the Research Folder. It adds to our knowledge base and of course reminds us greatly of what our parents and grand parents went through during that campaign.

Yes, I will get my grandads comments off my farther who is presently editing them for the local historical society, there are some negative comments about some individuals and their actions who's close revatives are still living. I hope to keep an original for my own records and possibly forwarding to local records office in another 50 years or so.

All I could find:

Millward, Frederick, 17159 Pte ("Fritz" on his Medal Index Card)
Born Buckley.
Landed in France with 13 RWF 01/12/1919
DCM (London Gazette 15/11/1918)
Demobilised 07/03/1919

His service and pension records have disappeared in the Blitz, unfortunately.

If you want to know more about the operations 13 RWF was involved in, read Vol III of the Regimental Records of the Royal Welch Fusiliers, available through the Regimental Museum (http://www.rwfmuseum.org.uk/pu.html) or simply through your local library.

Yes, 01/12/1915, sorry for the typo.

If your GF had served with 1 RWF, I would have had more information - see the Alexander James Ellis thread. As it is, your only chance of finding out more would be the Museum. Brian Owen, the Curator, may have additional info, although I think it's not very likely. Still, worth a try. The e-mail address is on the Museum website. Please keep us informed of whatever you find!

" For conspicuous gallantry and good leadership. He led his section in a flank attack against a enemy strong point and captured a machine gun and its team. He then went forward and killed an enemy sniper who was harassing the company. He showed splendid initiative on this and several other occasions"
