    Stanley Ivor Thomas

    HI All

Just joined this forum. Does anyone have any information for a Stanley Ivor Thomas. He was my Grandfather and served in Royal Welsh Fusiliers around 1940-1945. He joined in around 1940 and he was born in 1925. Not sure when he left. I am gathering some more information from my mother (i.e Service No and D.O.B) I believe he was caught P.O.W in France in 1944 and spent 9 months in Southern Germany until his release. He was a boxer and told me a few stories over a drink about some fights and also an event regarding the guard commander telling him he 'had too much' and it was time to go to bed. Obviously he disagreed with that.
I will post some other information when available but if anyone can work with this and provide any information it would be great.

    Thanks

    Simon

Thank you so much for this info. I have since been provided with my Grandfathers Army Number and it matches the one you have provided. So i know we are talking about the same man. I will start my search and apply for his service records. Thank you again

    Regards

    Re: Stanley Ivor Thomas

I can assume that he was a member of 4, 6 or 7 RWF in Normandy. Part of 53rd Welsh Division. Going by the date of his capture in July, I'd assume that he was captured during Operation Greenline, when 158 Brigade (what those Battalions were part of) was engaged in Operation Greenline, fighting over Le Ferme de Monraineville and Evrecy.

More info/photos will hope me pull it together a bit more.
