Looking for info on an old Soldier
A friend of mine recently found out that his great grandfather was a member of the Regiment during the first World War.
The details he gave me are;
Private John Oliver Davies
Reg No. 77539
Z/R.W.Fus
No. 393
23rd Battalion
APC 4766
Any help on this matter would be appreciated
Clive

Clive
His papers have survived.
John enlisted aged 27 years as Pte 4766 in the Army Pay Corps and served in the UK. About Feb 1918 he transferred to the RWF as Pte 77539. He was posted overseas in August 1918 and to 13th Bn on 26th August. He was wounded by shrapnel to the left foot a few days later on 1/9/1918 and sent back to UK where he was at Northumberland War Hospital, Gosforth Newcastle on Tyne from 8/9/1918 to 2/12/1918. He was demobbed to Reserves 2/3/1919. Address then of Ash Villa, Penybont , Radnorshire.
I'll have a look to see if anything 'big' was on on 1/9/1918.

Re: Looking for info on an old Soldier
Something 'big' was on! It was 2nd Battle of Bapaume. Couldn't spot the casualties in my quick scan of Reg Records but 13th Bn were in 113rd Bde, the 2nd Bn in the 115th Bde suffered losses such that afterwards it was organised as a Company with a strength of about 90 rifles.
PM me your email if you want the relevant Reg Records material. Will take a day or two

These guys really are good, am I right Clive?
I'll have to hook out some infor on my wifes father, she's been asking me for years to find out where he served and what medals he had etc. He did not serve with the RWF but was a Sapper, mine detection I think.
