BILL STREET BEM (Strasser)
"I am sorry to inform you all that Bill Street sadly passed away this morning in Neville Hall Hospital, Abergavenny. He was found unconscious in his house last Friday by neighbours and never recovered.
Bob Doak"
This is a person who lived a major part of the RWF's history in the 20th Century from the battlefields of France, Belgium, Holland and Germany right through to the conflict in Northern Ireland during the 1970's. He left the battalion the year I joined the army. His death is a poignant moment for all of us.

Re: BILL STREET BEM (Strasser)
It is fair to say that when I first met Bill he made an immediate and lasting impression. The phrase 'real character' has been used so often that it is has begun to sound banal, yet in the case of Bill it could not have greater resonance. Here was a man who truly lived life to the full. His character and soldierly capability ensured that he had an enormous profile across all areas within the Regiment.
A more popular and respected member of his peer group would be hard to find and it will be difficult to think of him without smiling as he had a unique ability to lift anyone from the most sombre of moods. He had an unrivalled wit and sense of humour; few within the chain of command escaped his proportionally measured acerbic wit. What is beyond question is that all he did was done with a spirit of fun, energy and without any trace of guile or malice.
Bill will be greatly missed. Our thoughts at this difficult time are with all of his family and friends who will feel the loss of this very special individual.

Re: BILL STREET BEM (Strasser)
My earliest memories of Bill are as a child, when my father took me onto the Mess and there was this fugure with a huge beard (full colour then). I think I was probably terrified at that point, but I remember he was so softly spoken and reassuring that it did not last. He would even allow me to stroke the famous beard. Bill was a real Gentleman, respected and loved by everyone. He will be sorely missed. Godbless.
If I can help somebody as I pass along, my living will not be in vain.

Hello All,
I remember "Strasser" from our halcyon days in Jamaica, with his mucker "Griff " 70, they broke the mould after he was born. R.I.P. Bridgend & District Branch of the Royal Welch Fusiliers Comrades Association send their deepest sympathy to all his immediate family and his many friends from the battalion.
