ok. trying to find out about my late father's army career on finding his initial form on joining the army in 1944 in liverpool on it he has lied about his age only being 16 . he then joined the royal welch fusiliers i would like to know if he was in the 4th 6th or 7th because i have a picture of him in the ardennes. he later went on to serve in the suffolks the norfolks and the east anglian regiments serving 36 years but i would like to start at the very beginning, so any information to help me would be appreciated.

Re: start at the very beginning
Hi Max, welcome.
Have you applied for his service record yet? As long as you have his service number, that should be easy enough. Once you have
that, we can certainly help in tracking his active service.
158 Bde landed at Normandy on or about the 25th June 1944. Whether he was with them at that stage will depend on when he joined
and completed his training.
Do you have any info about the location in the UK he was based at, prior to the picture being taken in the Ardennes. Sometimes odd place names
identify holding areas in the UK, which in turn can help us narrow down the battalion.
We would be interested in seeing the picture, if you could upload to our gallery, it all helps to increase our knowledge.

Re: had trouble downloading picture
Keith, sorry if I sounded critical. Unintentional, I can assure you. As for the site speed, last night I even could not log in at all. By the way, I like your sig. Only too true.
Fudgereedoo, I assume that you want to upload a photo for us to analyse. I must admit that I always find that difficult myself. Click "Go advanced" when posting and scroll down until you see "Manage attachments". That will open a window to help you attach one or more files. Use "Add files" to find whatever you want on your own system, then drag the file to the lower pane of the window. That should work.

John,
be assured no offence taken, my signature is/was, I believe, attributable to Ronald Reagan - the Wallnut!

Re: had trouble downloading picture
If you can't see the thumbnail of your photo under your post, fudgereedoo, something has gone wrong. Please read the potted instructions in my previous post, and don't give up. We have several WW2 experts here, and I think that they will find one or more photos a great help in answering your questions. So please keep trying.

PS Reagan was a wise man, Keith, but did he lower the taxes, I wonder?
