Great War Classic back in print!

“Up to Mametz and Beyond” by Llewelyn Wyn Griffith, edited and annotated by Jonathon Riley. Published by Pen & Sword Books Ltd.

Llewelyn Wyn Griffith’s “Up to Mametz” is one of the classic books to come out of the First World War. In it the author describes the transformation of himself and his fellow Royal Welch Fusilier officers from civilians to battle-hardened veterans. The book ends with the horrors of the fighting for Mametz Wood in July 1916.

This new edition contains extra material from Wyn Griffith’s papers in the Royal Welch Fusiliers archive and held by his family, edited and annotated by Lieut Gen Jonathon Riley. It takes the story up to the Armistice and covers Wyn Griffith’s experiences as a staff officer.

Illustrated with many maps and photographs the volume is an extremely welcome addition to the bibliography of the Great War.

The book is available from the Regimental Museum in Caernarfon. The price is £15.99 (RRP £19.99) plus £4.00 postage and packing in the UK; other destinations at cost.

Tried to order a copy earlier today via Amazon (usually the easiest living away from UK), but already out of stock. I'll add it to the bookshelf one way or another....

    Thanks!

Hywyn, just e-mail the curator, Brian Owen, and ask him to keep a copy for you. I know him well, so you can mention that I suggested it.

I have, and find it very good. The extra chapters are interesting, as are the many footnotes after each chapters. Good photo material, also many maps and sketches. Would not want to be without it, highly recommended!
