    Re: Mostyn Venables

    Hello all,
I went to Mostyn's funeral on Friday the 24th inst. I phoned Derek Singer with my eta at Merthyr Tydfil railway station and he arranged for a branch member to take me to the church. On my arrival the coffin was in the church with a union flag along side an R.W.F Flag/Standard.The branch had obtained the services of a bugler for both the service in the church and at the crematorium, in attendance also were two Standard bearers.and a large congregation attended. I was in the same intake as Mostyn on the 7/11/1950 and we trained at the old Welsh Brigade H.Q. Brecon in Dering Lines. After the cremation we all made our way to Mostyn's favourite watering hole During this time we revived many memories of Mostyn and our old times in the RWF (Both the 1st & 2nd Malaya)
The years passed by like lightning, and I realised what a wonderful and homogenous fraternity exists in the R.W.F.C.A.we must preserve this unique association at all cost and prevent any dilution and or deterioration of it at all times. In passing I must express my thanks to all the Merthyr Tydfil branch for their help and support on this sad occasion. I was ferried every where by car, even to the extent of a car being ready to take me back to the station from the public house we were using for my return journey to Bridgend, and a branch member accompanied me to the platform and made sure I was on the right track to return home. And the icing on the cake was that on my belated arrival at home some 10 minutes after coming through the front door I had a telephone call from Derek Singer to make sure I had arrived home safely. What more can a man expect from his comrades. R.I.P Mostyn.

    Don
Comradeship is what it's all about. Merthyr Branch did you and Mostyn proud by making sure you could say your farewells to a fellow comrade you met first over 60 years ago.
