    The great escape

    Hello All,
I just had a quick look at Sky Military history on Channel 315, and on the 1st of March 2010, they are putting out a programme about the escape of 70 German P.O.W's from Island Farm camp in Bridgend. This escape took place on the night of10/11 of March 1945. The camp was known as Camp 198 and was renumbered Camp X1 after the escape, and it held a lot of German high ranking officers who were waiting to attend the war crimes trials in Nuremberg. One of whom was Von Rundstedt amongst many others. hut 9 is still on the original site but much the worse for wear now. Please check the date and time of this transmission as I only had a very quick shufti.Details of this escape can be found by typing Island Farm Bridgend on the google search engine plus a web site by Brett Exton. it was funny after it was all over but caused a few problems for the local police and Home Guards etc at the time.
    Regards RBD aka jungle

    Hello Brianm,
Sad to say I am out of Appletons. My next stop is Sainbury's for a bottle of the Estate rum or even some "White Lightning" from Wray & Nephew.
    Regards Don
