Walter Veales IGS Hazara and LSGC back in the family.
I recently bought Color Serjeant Walter Veales IGS with Hazara 1891 clasp and LSGC. Unfortunately his South Africa pair was missing. In the "regimental records" he is mentioned as a crack shot, winning several competions for the regiment in India along with other Serjeants of the regiment.
Googling and searching Ancestry a bit conjured up relatives who had a great interest in their ancestors, one still having one of Walters competition "shields" from the shooting matches. Also some photos.
Walter was with the 12th RWF at home during WWI, then Quartermaster in a Cheshire batallion, still at home.
I decided that the medals were better off in the family, the swap was completed today. Will try to add images later, just now it is beyond me.
ATB,
Lars

Well done Lars. An excellent job. Especially as there are family members who still care. You must be very satisfied.

Pleased as punch comes to mind, along with a (very minor) tinge of regret considering when I am likely to next see a pair like this. A India 54 and a LSGC would be nice, but a group like this should not be kept from the family. Just hope we can help in bringing his South African pair back aswell.
