Has anyone noticed we cannot use the Barracks anymore?

Any reason why that is so. As we Royal Welch, and Hightown Bks were the home of the regiment, I think it is out of order that we have to go into town for the reunion and AGM.

I wonder how long before an "invitation" to use Maindy Barracks is offered? Cynical....me?

    Hi Gwyn,

You'll probably find it's all to do with budgets etc. The RRWCA have had this problem for some time now being denied both the Brecon and Maindy Barracks venue as a result of either financial cutbacks or use of both locations for the training and accommodation of the TA and Regular Forces prior to deployment on Ops.

    Hi Gerry
My comment was very tongue in cheek to be honest, but it is pretty dire when these things happen. History disappearing before our very eyes year on year, where will it end ? I for one am sick of term financial restraints/cutbacks being used as an excuse in this country. We can send millions of pounds to CHINA (one of the fastest growing economies in the world) but we cant use a Barracks for a reunion once a year. Pre-deployment I can accept but we are talking about the same weekend each year or as near as damn it. Excuses ,excuses, to get rid of another fine tradition. Where are our ex-Generals who should be "pulling strings" calling in favours etc to look after their boys? These guys followed you "leaders" how about some payback sirs for that loyalty!

Yes Gwyn your right, its a shame that RWFCA H.Q. Wrexham, who obviously knew of the changes some time ago had not informed us sooner with an explanation, I assume our H.Q that we visit once an year is out of bounds to members this year, allthough it has not been confirmed, The reason may be to some Maintenance work, trg. etc., come on H.Q keep us in the picture, And before someone comes along with "Its done, now get on with it" all I can say is " You dont understand",

They stopped the RRW from using the Accommodation etc in Brecon last year. They did however offer some Accommodation in Sennybridge but no Transport to and from Brecon, so if you didn't drink you were ok. It was very disappointing last year really. Even more disappointing this year as there is NO RRW Reunion, reason given - Because of the Parade for the New Colours at Chester. So they couldn't change 1 or the other to another Weekend. When we started to question this on the RRW Site we were told by the New Regt Asst Secretary to stop Bellyaching about it and to get on with things. So it's getting were they don't want us to express our opinions either. Braz

Re: 86th Reunion and AGM, Wrexham

    Hello Bertie,
For the last couple of years we have used the barracks for our AGM with the permission of the C.O of the R.E.M.E. now the R.E.M.E need more space and as a result we cannot use the barracks any more. But the day has dawned that we all knew in our heart of hearts that the use of the barracks for our A.G.M. would come to an end. Re having to leave the barracks to the best of my knowledge the only thing we will be unable to do is the small bore shooting. with the usual good spirit that abounds in the RWF I do not think it is the end of the world. We must also thank our last Regimental secretary(major A Ellingham) and our new regt sec for using their initiative and experience to enable us to enjoy our AGM and be able to remain in Wrexham.
    Regards RBD aka jungle
