Lance Corporal Billy Windor, the regimental goat of the 1st Battalion The Royal Welsh was promoted during a service on Wednesday held to celebrate achievements of the 23rd of Foot (Royal Welch Fusiliers) during the Battle of Alma. that took place in Crimea in 1854.
Billy was honoured to receive his promotion by the Colonel of the regiment Brigadier Roderick Porter "Alama day was an appropriate day to promote a junior rank" said Brigadier Porter " Two VCs were won by the Battalion, one of whom was a Corporal"
Billy, (Army number 25232301) was famously demoted after his behaviour during the Queen`s Birthday Celebrations, but according to Unit Press Officer, Captain Simon Clarke, he has had time to accept the consequences of his actions: "Billy has had all summer to reflect on his behaviour at the Queen`s birthday and he has clearly earned the rank he deserves"
Lieutenant Colonel Huw James Commanding Officer of the First Battalion, The Royal Welsh added: "Lance Corporal Billy Windsor is a vital part of the battalion. He represents the deep-seated values and traditions of a fine regiment."
