Hi AP unfortunately no all the information mentioned on my father came from his last remaining brother now 83 and his memory is fading, but the 42 start 42 finish he`s sure of. My father came from Abergele / st George , his youngest brother William Mark served 1 RWF in Düsseldorf in the 50`s . I have tried everywhere to find out his army number with no luck. hope this limited info is of some use . thanks 17

    Hi 17

The closest I can get with what you have. Might be him ?

    4182042 Roberts, John Edward

Unfortunately I have nothing more at all that will help you work out if it is. Might be worth a letter to Glasgow ?

You will need as much info as you can get. The inquiry needs to come from the next of kin.

    Here is the address :

    Army Personnel Centre Secretariat
    Disclosures 2
    Mail Point 515
    Kentigern House
    65 Brown Street
    Glasgow G2 8EX

Instructions can be found here :

I have an interest in medals to the Regiment. Not because they are shiny but because of what they represent, proud service from the Peninsular War to Afghanistan.

Sometimes all that is left of a man is the naming on his medal, and these medals could be the only tangible remains of his service with the RWF. Men whose service and sacrifice need to be remembered, whether they gave their lives at Mametz Wood, died of disease on the African Gold Coast or even lived to a ripe old age.

During the last twenty odd years I have been collating as much information as I can about men who served in the RWF, from war diaries, medal rolls, newspapers, etc etc.

I really hope that this is the right chap we have found. It makes the many hours spent reading and recording information so worth while.

    Richard
