    Soldier 150 comes home

THE 150th soldier to be killed in Afghanistan has passed through Wootton Bassett as more than 1,000 people stood in silent tribute.

Lance Corporal Christopher Harkett, 22, from the 2nd Battalion, Royal Welsh Regiment, was killed while on duty on March 14.

He was injured in an explosion in Musa Qala in northern Helmand but medics were unable to save him.

Sadly, he was not alone at today's 2pm repatriation. Cpl Graeme Stiff, 24,. and Cpl Dean John, 25, both of the 1st The Queen's Dragoon Guards joined their colleague after they were killed in an explosion in the west of Garmsir, Helmand Province, southern Afghanistan on March 15.

Their deaths bring the number of British personnel killed in Afghanistan since 2001 to 152.

Does anyone know if they have renamed the main street in Bassett yet to Heoro's Way?

It is ironic that the three men who died are from welsh regiments, the two REME guys from the QDG's (the welsh armoured regiment) and LCpl Harkett from our regiment, and they all come home together.

God bless them and their families. They died to save others.

God Bless them, may they rest in peace. Our thoughts are now with their bereaved families, I'm sure. I hope they have the strength to get through this very sad time and can find comfort in their memories.
