    24203176 Colin Hughes

Colin joined the army with me in 1970 but PVR'd in 75 or 76.

Our first wives are sisters, so his children are my nephews/nieces and are quite close to my children, especially the eldest son, Emlyn (Yes, he was named after the football player and if Colin had had his way would have been named after the whole Liverpool team!)

He disappeared about 1977 and no-one heard from him - including his children, until 2 years ago when his son asked us to try and find him, and we did, working as a coach driver in S Wales, Caerphilly I think. I started a thread here asking if anyone knew his whereabouts but I can't find it now.

He served in Sp Coy - anti tanks and left a L/Cpl - he was shot in the arm in Strabane and was never the same after.

I doubt if many will remember him, I know Jeff Bassett was always asking after him.

Anyway, my daughter just rang to say he had died suddenly/unexpectedly - heart attack. He was 53.

She does not know the funeral details - S Wales where he lived or N Wales (Wrexham/Llay) where his family are from.

But I have his son's contact details and can find out if anyone wants to attend.

Gosh that is really sad. My brother married his sister a long time ago now and had a son. She is working in Prince Charles Hospital, Merthyr, I wonder if she knows.

My brother divorced his sister a long time ago.

I served with Colin in the Anti-tanks in Tidworth, and I know he was a mad Liverpool supporter then, hence his sons name.

I have recently put some photos on the 70's gallery of the Anti Tanks and Colin is in several of them.

Really sad, I wish his family well.

I wonder if his son would like to see the photos? I have the negatives.

    Regards

    Clive

I've spoken to Emlyn (he's in the police force - Essex) The funeral wil not be for two or three weeks, after a post mortem.

If anyone has Jeff Bassett's contact details I know he'd like to know.
