    The Colonel Of Tamarkan

This book is about the CO of the POW's in Tamarkin Thailand that built the Death Railway. His name? Col Phil Toosey. A remarkable man, a pre war TA officer, his leadership in those terrible conditions undoubtedly saved many mens lives. He was an officer of the old school, born to lead, with a sense of honour, the book explains his approach to dealing with the Japanese, and his style of leadership with his men. It also lays to rest the myth of the film "Bridge Over The River Kwai" which was universally hated by the POW's.

Forum member Jeffords grandfather Bill Fergusson, would certainly have known this man, he was also a leading member of the Far East POW Association.
