Re: Request For Help
Records office is the best bet for his service records (history) the more info you can supply the better chance you have getting them. DOB, service number etc. On the web site their I am sure retired people who will search for the information for a small fee. Went through this when my lad did a year 7 project at school, Siprising what you can dig up once you get a lead.
Good luck

Re: Request For Help
You'd have to try and get more info on him first - d.o.b would be the most useful for a detailed search. Did they give you more details?

Re: Request For Help
I think he needs to be advised to join the forum Keith. Otherwise nobody else gets to contribute, which seems pointless.

Keith, Flower,
I did, I was assuming you'd shortened the details because you mention he'd been in touch before.. I know never assume, it makes an ass out of you and me.
all the best.

Re: Request For Help
Al,
thanks for that.
After I put up the thread (which is ALWAYS exactly the FULL information I receive in their request) I email them to let them know I have done so and that they should expect 'hundreds' of queries and questions from the very many regimental (and other) historians, of which I am not one, who will be in touch with them very soon because they have all been asked to get in touch directly and not through the Forum. I ALWAYS close my email by suggesting that there is nothing to prevent them from registering as a member and creating their own threads and responding directly on the forum so that we can all enjoy the fruits of the research which sometimes reveals some extremely interesting information from which are sometimes, on the face of it, very innocuous enquiries.
Some register, some don't. I don't believe that I can be expected, nor is it necessary for me, to act as go-between in an activity in which I have absolutely no interest (I know that is a SERIOUS failing on my part which I will at some stage have to reconcile but, for now) apart from sometimes being very impressed with the information, and the way it is presented, which you guys come up with in a very short time.
If someone was to ask, however, what happened to RMS Queen Elizabeth after it was sunk in Lai Chi Kok Harbour in Hong Kong in 1971 (and thereafter used as a set for one of the James Bond movies) now that is a VERY different matter!
