1 rwf 1861-1867
Can anyone please tell me where the Regiment was from 1861 (census time) until 1867 when they were at Newport Mon.?
Patrick McCormick enlisted 21/7/1860 at Omagh. Next record is 1861 Eastry Kent then nothing until 21/9/1869 Newport with Wife on Married establishment.
Desperate to find the marriage.
Any suggestions most gratefully recived
Mike

Yes, Mike. You should try The National Archives building in London. I myself have been told this by my local geneayoligest if I want to find out about my great grandfather's marrage. However, I'm also told that the best meathod is to actually visit the archive in London. Good luck anyway.

Thanks Neil, tried that but not all of his Army records were available so I was going to try Parrish records for each town the regiment was posted to during these years.
Thanks again,

The movement of 2nd Bn could have a more interest to you.
2nd Bn RWF formed at Newport Mon on 3rd March 1858. Dec 7th 1858 moved to Aldershot. Feb 5th 1859 embarked at Portsmouth, landed at Malta 22nd Feb 1859.
The 2nd Bn remained in Malta and moved to Gibraltar on 28th Oct 1863. June 23rd 1866 embarked for Canada, arrived at Montreal July 13th.
Oct 16th 1867 2nd Bn embarked for England, Oct 29th landed at Portsmouth, preceded to Newport, Mon, remained at Newport and moved to Aldershot May 14th 1869
Hope this is helpful to you,
Glyn

Re: 1 rwf 1861-1867
Glyn,
I don,t know how to thank you for such a brilliantly helpful detailed answer.
You have answered a hell of a lot of questions and queries. I already have gathered a lot of information over the last six years of researching my GT Grandfather and every little piece of the jig saw helps to complete the story.
I can't thank you enough. This site with its wonderful group of comrades is something to be envied from a brylcream boy like myself!!
Thank you again
Mike McCormick
