Best time In Army?
The Best Time in the Army for me ?
Well its something I was dwelling over during the last two ks of my Saturday Run, What was my best time in the army throughout my 22 yrs service?
After a short recoup there was no question it was Lemgo as a LCpl in the Siganal platoon no more DROs for me? working in the Signal platoon with some great Lads Paul Hubbuck, Keith Philips66 Grith 53 Mike Stojanovic Bev Beven John Tierney, John Turner, Gwyn Nick, Stummpy 27 ,TC, Dai 70 Mike Conibear,Radar, Parrfit and Efion.
Plus the Coy Dets Paul Butt A Coy whom I replaced later Larry older brother of Sid B Coy Det, Ray 19 C Coy, and 31 then later Beano in Deltas their are many more ie Pug but he was in the jail more than the platoon lol.
But as a Ljack you could get away with a lot more and like the Sgts Mess the Cpls Mess had its own network and the things we use to have running Hub and I for the benefit of the Signals Cadre of course there was always plenty of boose and stuff for the final p..s up!
Not forgetting Dutch Holland!!!
Warminster was OK as I was a Recce there but again in Tern Hill the old double act was together again and Hub and I got wheeling and dealing again for the Platoon and Battalions benefit we had all the rovers in the platoon fitted out at Donnington "Lux standards for the army" later the Dets got theres done too I enjoyed all the Sgt Bilko type stuff? which was repeated in the Falklands ask Mike Stojanovic LSGC how I say?
Plus in the Cpl Mess had a darts team with Bri Meah Tim Grubb Yoko Martin Hargreaves and Co, Hubb was the PMC of the mess and I the PEC so good value was sought for the Christmas's Function Prizes in abundance.
Later when join the Sgts Mess you tend to loose that side well I suppose you have too? As the Tea & Toast at 10am takes care of any needs you have no need to fen for your selfs no more.
I must say though all the guys I met in the Battalion through the years always had the ability to scrounge kit from somewhere!
Lemgo followed by Tern Hill for me

For me it was living in the "Rathole" in Lemgo with D Coy. Although we literally did live like rats under the gym I think it brought the whole Company closer together as one.

Re: Best time In Army?
Im a bit younger, so it has to be Berlin for me!! The location was superb, including the camp. The work was enjoyable(only cos I was younger and fit!!), the socialising with the lads in the NAAFI bar, Corporals Mess and downtown was great(even the extras and charges after were worth it!!). After Berlin, nowhere really came close to the place. Thats only my opinion of course. I've been back since, and am probabaly going out in three weeks time when Liverpool play Hertha Berlin in a pre-season friendly. Happy Happy days!!!

Aah the Multan or (the Motown)
remember asking for some rock music on the weekends to p*** off the lads from the neighbouring regiments and when he didnt, we flung our plastic glasses at the DJ, the Pussyfoot Disco if I remember correctly. And of course, the poor old Burger Man used to suffer at the end of the night too !

Re: Best time In Army?
got to agree with scouse Berlin was the main one for me, great times, good training, good social, good rugby, there wasnt much the Bn didnt win out there, from the patrols comps to the hassle with the other regiments,
one of the more memorable occasions was a 7s competition in Auhouse Denmark, What a weekend , great bunch of lads from the squad packed into a minibus the only sober guy when we got there was poor chrissy Phillips (Spunky) who had to drive. I have never been so wrecked, how we won that competition i will never know, Charlie Fenrton had us warming up with a can of larger while every one else was stretching off and chucking the ball around. We sobered up just in time to win the final. Some good tales could be told about that weekend.
