The Last Muster:

Sunday at the Royal Hospital, Chelsea 1875 by Sir Hubert von Herkomer (1849 – 1914)

Got the eldest daughter over from uni, she fancied a bit of a culture hit, so we paid a visit to the Lever Art Gallery at Port Sunlight. Whilst in there we spotted this picture. Bearing in mind it was painted in 1875, that scene could easily be depicted today at the Chelsea Hospital.

The central figure with the stick has answered the call to "The Last Muster". Everyone except for his comrade sat next to him is unaware of the situation. Looking at the picture, any soldier could connect with it and enjoy it.

That's a beautiful scene. Very emotional, you can almost feel the sadness of his mate as he takes his arm. Nice find Al.

I still think my brother should do an up to date collage of the RWF. He would do a fantastic job I'm sure.
