Afghanistan 12 Feb 2008 - Casualty - A Company Group
12 February 2008
A member of A Company Group was injured by an IED whilst on patrol in Helmend Province on the 12th Feb 2008.
Due to the high-readiness and expertise of the Immediate Response Team (IRT), it was just 36 minutes from the soldier being injured to him being on the helicopter on his way to Camp Bastian where he went straight into surgery. Whilst his injuries are considered to be serious they are not life threatening and his condition is stable.
The soldiers Next-of-Kin, both in Cyprus and the UK, have been informed and are being assisted by the Welfare Staff and close friends. We should respect their privacy in this difficult time. The Welfare Office of 1R Welsh would be best placed to advise on any practical assistance and support that volunteers may be able to provide.
We wish him a speedy recovery. He and his wife and family are in our thoughts.

Cpl Danny Sheen is now at RCDM (Selly Oak) in the Critical Care Unit. His wife, son and parents are with him. He received significant injuries to both his legs and his abdomen and has undergone a series of operations since his arrival in the UK yesterday morning. He will not be in a position to receive visitors for quite some time - check in with Kim Taylor first.
I would re-emphasise the point about his medical care - it has been exceptional from the immediate first aid at the point of wounding through the RMO's attention at the FOB to his collection by the MERT to the surgery at BASTION to the Aeromed CCAST to care at RCDM. He was in surgery in Selly Oak less than 24 hrs after being wounded in one of the most isolated areas of Southern Afghanistan.
