OC's of Years gone bye The Good the Bad and the almost ugly

As 2007 draws to a close and whilst on my morning run I thought of Company commanders whom had a influence on my life either positive or negative during my Army Career now we will not all see them as so?

    But here goes

    Maj Easy

Maj Crocker so laid back never stressed out ! (as long has he got the cricket scores sent over the company channel) he was sound.

    Maj Top Dog

Maj Brian Plumber OC A at the time very professional guy, with a great sense of humor, he had to have working with me & Des.

Maj Sternberg must also have a mention here worked with him in Tern Hill on Hunter Force with the SAS (Escape & Aviation) Ex in the hills around Town & Breckon for the Pl Commanders course we scaled down to a Platoon the OC was the PC I a Section cmd with Lt Johnson as my 2/ic good time had by all.

    Maj Scary

Tom the bomb Silverside, gave me a few good bollockings in the late 70s

    Maj disaster

Personally I only like to look back at the good things and the good times in my service. To that end:

The Late Major Tim Bible a true officer and a gentleman who was always interested in the soldiers he commanded. His men really would have followed him to hell and back. The best CO we never had!

Major Tony Perkins another gentleman who stayed close to his men. Always approachable and available to lend an ear or give sound advice. Also a great guy to have a pint with in the Red Dragon. (RSO days)

Major Porter (CO Falklands). Without whom I would have probably left the Army after six years. He showed faith in me when others who were closer, didn't.
If I can help somebody as I pass along, my living will not be in vain.

    Hello,
One of the best coy commanders I knew of was Major the Lord Wynford, another was MajorJ.M.B.Barchard. I also had a lot of time for Capt "Gurkha" Goad who acted as Coy Commander on detachment whilst we were posted to Grenada in the West Indies

Major (now Col) Mike Lewis very approachable and always understood the needs of his men. He always knew when to push the right buttons at the right time to get the maximum from those who served under him

    Maj Ravenhill OC HQ Coy.

PT at 0530 every morning come rain or shine..and in BallyKelly it rained everymorning! He was fitter than most 18 year olds and could drink his own body weight in lager. His sing alongs in the cookhouse on Dai's Day were always a winner.
