A COMPANY UPDATE 24 October 2007
An excerpt from Alphas Diary:
On Sunday morning(21st) we flew to CampBastion which has been our home for the past couple of days. There are excellent ranges out here in the desert so the platoons have had a fantastic opportunity to fine tune their compound clearance drills. Also, Fusilier Frauen and Fusilier Williams 52 both learnt what it is like to be chased by an attack dog! You will be relieved to know that although the dog definitely won on both occasions, the Fusiliers came off unscathed (if a little shaken!) thanks to the protective suit they were wearing. We are keeping a video diary of our time out here so you will be able to see these and our other antics when we return home.
By day it is still quite warm out here and after two days on the ranges there are a few rosy faces, so the sun worshippers amongst the group are relieved that we will be returning to Cyprus well tanned. Our accommodation so far has been civilised so everyone has been trying to get as much rest as possible. The food has been excellent so we are building up our reserves of energy ahead of our expected diet of ration packs for the next few weeks.
Our planning and preparation time is coming to an end now though, and everyone is focusing on the task ahead. By the time you read this we will have deployed onto the ground so please do not worry if communication from us is scarce. We will try and update this site as much as possible though. We hope that you are all well in Cyprus and UK and we are all thinking about you.
