Welcome to the first edition of the year of the RHQ, The Royal Welsh monthly newsletter. This edition marks the beginning of a significant milestone in our history: the 20th Anniversary of The Royal Welsh.

In this month’s edition, we reflect on a poignant moment from ten years ago with a look back at the laying up of the Royal Welsh Regiment (RWR) Colours. We also honour our forebears with coverage of the commemorations for the 147th anniversary of Isandlwana and Rorke’s Drift, as well as the 177th anniversary of Chillianwallah.

Turning to the present, we showcase the professionalism of our active battalions. You will find reports on the 1st Battalion’s Hackle Company conceptual development trip to London and the 3rd Battalion’s recent live-fire exercises and professional development weekend in Brecon.

We also celebrate individual and sporting successes, extending our congratulations to Colonel Geraint Davies on his OBE, and recapping the Army Tennis Tour in the Indo-Pacific. The issue also discusses the Regimental Headquarters’ annual visit to the Chelsea In-Pensioners and the vital work of Project FLASH in Swansea.

Please be sure to review the Upcoming Diary Dates on the front page, as we have a packed schedule of events to celebrate our 20th year, including the upcoming RWF Rugby Reunion and the “Party in the Park” at Cardiff Castle later this summer.
