It is with great sadness to announce the passing of my father Derek Hawthorne (22643116).

1st BN R.W.F 1952-1954

He passed after a short illness on the 14th June 2025 at the ripe old age of 91.

He was a member of this forum (derekh) and I helped him post some of his photographs when did his national service while posted in Jamaica.

I Have all his photographs and service records he did a lot in the short time during his national service.

He was so proud of his service and his pictures are proudly displayed at his home and especially being a guard of honour to the Big four when they visited Jamaica.

And what was amazing even in his later years he could name 90% of the guys in the photographs including training staff.

Not sure if correct but he mentioned Bill Roach was an officer not sure it his was his BN.
