Major (Retd) John "David" Pierce
Last Post: Major (Retd) John "David" Pierce (Late RWF & SWB)
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Major (Retd) John "David" Pierce, who served with distinction in both the Royal Welch Fusiliers and the South Wales Borderers.
Major Pierce embarked on his military journey, commissioning from intake 03 at RMAS after the war. His career spanned 25 years, during which he served in various appointments.
He commenced his service in January 1948 which eventually took him to numerous locations, including Northern Ireland, Berlin, Jamaica, and Malaya. He served as a Signals Officer, Brigade Intelligence Officer, and later as a G.3. Intelligence officer while attending the Technical Staff College.
Major Pierce retired in 1971, having achieved the rank of Major. He was known for his unwavering commitment to the regiment, which remained his greatest passion throughout his life.
Following his retirement, he engaged in farm work, pursued further studies as a mature student of Science at St Lukes College, Exeter, and contributed to education through supply teaching in Cornwall. He later took on a teaching position at Trenske Prep School for Truro School, Cornwall.
A memorial service to honour Major Pierce's life and service will likely be held in early February (date to be confirmed). Details will be announced as they become available.
