Last Post: Major General (Retd), the Reverend, Richard Morgan Llewellyn CB, OBE (Late RWF)
It is with great sadness we must announce the passing of Major General (Retd), the Reverend, Richard Morgan Llewellyn CB, OBE after a short battle with Cancer. Morgan Llewellyn had a distinguished military career spanning over three decades. Born in Princetown, Devon, on 22nd August 1937, he dedicated his life to the Royal Welch Fusiliers, joining initially as a Fusilier in 1956 and eventually retiring as a Major General in 1987.
His service with the RWF took him from the regiment's home in Wrexham to the jungles of Malaya, the divided city of Berlin, and the conflicts of Northern Ireland. He served as a Platoon Commander, Adjutant, Brigade Major, Commanding Officer, and latterly, was Colonel of the Royal Welch Fusiliers from 1990. Notably, he was awarded an MBE for gallantry in 1976, an OBE in 1979 and eventually a CB in 1992.
Major General Llewellyn also held key positions at the Ministry of Defence, including Director of Army Staff Duties and Chief of Staff, United Kingdom Land Forces. After retiring from the Army in 1991, he continued to serve his community, studying theology, and becoming an ordained deacon and Minor Canon of Brecon Cathedral. Followed by several years as the School Chaplain to Christ Collage Brecon.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth (Polly) Llewellyn, and their children. A true leader, dedicated officer, and man of faith, Major General Llewellyn will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Funeral details will be announced when known.
