Last Post & Funeral Details: Edward Edwin Lewis (Welch Regt & RWF)

It is with deep regret we announce the passing of Edward Edwin Lewis on November 13, 2023.

Edward, known to many as a devoted family man, proudly hailed from Bryn Road, Tondu, Bridgend. He cherished his upbringing in Bryn Road, attending Brynmenyn School and later Bridgend County School, where he received an excellent education.

Edward joined active military service on July 1, 1943. He underwent rigorous training, including advanced infantry training in Norfolk, where he honed skills in close combat, unarmed combat, and night operations. Edward's dedication to his comrades was evident as he shared anecdotes from his military service, showcasing resilience, bravery, and a sense of duty.

Edward participated in the Normandy invasion, serving with the 1st 5th Welch Regiment. His vivid recollections detail the challenges faced during the mission assault, build-up, and breakout. He played a crucial role in closing the Falaise Gap, where he sustained injuries but miraculously survived, ultimately contributing to the victory over the German forces.

Post-war, Edward continued his journey, serving in India with the Royal Welch Fusiliers. He demonstrated leadership as a platoon sergeant, overseeing approximately 30 men.

After Victory over Japan was declared on September 2, 1945, Edward returned home to pursue his career as an electrical engineer.

Edward Edwin Lewis lived a full and remarkable life, shaped by his dedication to family, education, and service to his country. His funeral details are as follows:
