Genealogy - Help to track down National Service Records
HelloMy name is Adrian Davie and I’m trying to track down any Army Service records for my Late father Peter Dando Davie (also k/a Peter Dorian Davie), who served as a Private in Malaya (Singapore) between 1947/48/49 during his National Service. He was born on 10 October 1928 and died on 30 December 1974. He was born and raised in and around the Penarth area of South Wales.Excuse my ignorance, but I don’t even know which Regiment he served in. I have a photo of him with a couple of comrades, one of which is wearing a beret with what looks like the RWF Cap Badge?I know he was stationed in Majadee Barracks, Johore in 1947 and also Tanglin Barracks in 1947 or 48. Can anyone point me in the right direction to track down his records. I’ve tried most Genealogy Sites but without success. As an aside, he may have been part of the Army Catering Core, as whenever we did talk about his National Service he joked that he became a good potato peeler? Thanks for any help.RegardsAdrian Davie

Provided you are happy there is no other of same name then his Army number = 19,109,031 according to the RWF enlistment registers held at RWF Archives ***
Having this number will greatly assist you should you be following the advice given above by John.
As I'm firmly planted in WW1 research I cannot assist with deciphering the right hand column but it looks as if he's gone to some reserve or other in 1949.
(an extremely large link removed)
*** they can be viewed on Find My Past. Put Davie in Surname and Royal Wel* in Regiment brings up five records of that surname in RWF.

Wow, that is one big link! I snip/pasted his line from the register and it comes up as that.
Here's the link to his entry on Find My Past
https://search.findmypast.co.uk/reco...LIERS%2F095347
For those with no access to FMP the remarks section states Z/T Res 8 4/49 ROO 23/49

Re: Genealogy - Help to track down National Service Records
Gentlemen, thanks for your suggestions and help. Because of the lockdown due to Covid it has taken me some time to finally track down my late fathers records. It has taken me the last 12 months (and more) to apply, be refused access, appeal and finally be provided with some of my fathers military records from the MoD Personnel Records. Initially, I was refused access due to various sensitivities and told I couldn’t receive such information until 2049. On the basis I told them I would likely be dead by then they finally provided me with some limited records. He served in Singapore between 1947-1949 as a Corporal in I think A Company. If anyone has any further information about my fathers time out there or what A Company was up to it would be greatly appreciated. Once again, thanks for your help.
Regards
Adrian DAVIE
