Question 71 PTW (Primary Training Wing) - Location?

    Evening gents

I wonder if one of you WW2 officinardoes could help please, I am continuing my research in to my uncle who served in 2 RWF in WW2 and unfortunately died in Burma in 1945, I have discovered that after enlistment in November 1942 when he turned 18, he went to 71 PTW, for about a month before attending to 21 Infantry Training Centre, in Dering Lines, Brecon. Does anyone have any idea where 71 PTW was located and was it to issue uniform, teach them how to march etc?

    Thanks in anticipation. #StaySafe

Evening Graham, As I understand it, the PTW and Primary Training Centres came under Directory of Militery Training, both the PTW., and the PTC followed the same syllabus.
Basically initial 6 weeks consisting of basic infantry training in drill, Rifle shooting, P.T., Gas Training, basic Map Reading and basic Tactics.
They were attached to Corps and Training Centres. It is a guess on my behalf and just a guess that the 71st PTW may have been part of the 21 Training Centre, but that is just a guess.
No doubt there are others on here who can provide further information.
Cannot at this time find any firm information on the location of the 21st PTW.

    Cheers Dave

Graham, further back ground information for you with regards to the 21st Infantry Training Centre came into being on the 14th August 1941 when Regimental Depots ceased to be responsible for training. The 21st ITC., was responsible for training soldiers from the RWF, SWBs, and the Welch Regiment.

    Cheers Dave
